That’s disco’s grand daddy!
The world’s first DJ is celebrating his 90th birthday. Ron Diggins, from Boston in Lincolnshire, is the man widely credited with inventing the disco. He founded the art of the disc jockey way back in the 1940’s when he built the world’s first custom-made DJ console, the Diggola. “When I started out, the ordinary village halls danced to live piano and drums – that’s all”, he said. “If it was something extra special, they’d have a violin as well.” Ron, however, was not popular with everyone. “I wasn’t well liked by the musician’s union,” he said. “I was putting them out of a job.”
