One evening Maharaja Ranjit Singh was passing through the bazars of Lahore riding an elephant. A thoroughly drunk man confronted him and asked,”Oye kania (one eyed) eh katta wechna ee (will you sell this buffalo calf?). Maharaja who himself was a lover of bacchus was amused.’ Come tomorrow and we will settle the sale” Said the Maharaja. Next day the man who was sober now was called and Maharaja asked if he was still interested to buy the buffalo calf.” The last night trader is gone now” was the rejoinder of the man
