Dating has been a taboo in India until recently but with wide spread availability of satalite channels things have changed in the last 15 years and with better economic conditions the average middle class person has more leasure time for themselves as opposed to 15-20 years ago.

India is under going a huge change both economically and culturally and I think this is due to more independence of women on men as more and more women have started working where as about a decade ago very few women used to work given the lack of job opportunities.
