Jubilation at AIIMS, Delhi IIT

Thursday, March 29th, 2007

Students who were part of the anti-reservation agitation at the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences and the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, on Thursday welcomed the Supreme Court order staying the 27 per cent reservation for Other Backward Classes in elite educational institutions including the Indian Institutes of Management.

There was much celebration at AIIMS after news about the order came in. “We are celebrating Holi and Diwali together and are happy with the Supreme Court order. The proposal was wrong to begin with and was aimed at creating a vote bank,” said AIIMS Resident Doctors’ Association vice-president Arnab Pal.

Welcoming the order, Ashok Singh, president, IIT Alumni Association, Delhi chapter, said:

“The only way to improve education is to remove corruption from the government-funded and managed schools and institutes. Let the elite show the way by sending their children to corporation schools to show their trust in their own education system. The need of the day is to strengthen the basic primary education for the backward classes. Many of the senior politicians run hundreds of colleges, why have they excluded them from reservation?”

Youth For Equality, a non-political student movement, said: “We welcome the move and are happy that the apex court’s decision which is both student and nation friendly. The Government has to admit that its proposal was politically motivated and did not take into account the fact that meritorious students did not stand to benefit from the revised reservation proposal.”

Akali’s in power again in Punjab

Wednesday, March 7th, 2007

Congress took a big hit in punjab as Akaili dal is back in power again in Punjab and the extent of damadge it has done nationally for congress is huge.

Congress is seeing it as a small event in national politics but we all know and so does congress men that it is not a small defeat as punjab is one of thier traditional vote banks and a defeat there means another nail in thier coffin.

It is not really in the interest of Punjab to have voted congress out of power as congress is one party which has some good qualified people and could have transformed the states dying economy.

Call centre jobs in India

Wednesday, January 31st, 2007

We have seen a massive surge in call centre jobs in India in the recent years and the pace of increase in jobs is on the rise with more and more companies kicking out thier staff in thier respective countries and hiring more and more people here in India.

Most people in western countries have an impression that they are loosing out a lot of jobs to India and it is harming thier economy as a whole but as I have completed my graduation in economics honours I know whats the catch here and I really pity those idiots who moan about jobs going to India as they need some more schooling in my opinion.I will not go into the details of why is it not bad for them as I want them to rot with this feeling for ever and let them blame some one else for thier own inability to rise in life.

Racism at big brother

Thursday, January 25th, 2007

The stupid thing going on about racism in big brother really pisses me off some times..

I have lived in Canada,USA and UK and have met with all sorts of people from different background and have been a victim of racism at a few occasions aswell but to be very honest I really pity those white people who have this black brown and white thing in their heads coz the only people I have found to be racist are those who don’t do well in society and are themselves a burden on the society and on the other hand I have met people who are doing very well but are still racist and the reason I could make out was their insecurity and their inability to overtake their coloured counterparts and that’s what makes them look for things which they can talk about or act according to which makes them feel superior to them which is just an illusion they live with and nothing more.

Racism exists in India aswell and I find people in India more racist then anywhere else on earth and the roots are very deep and I can see this thing which some people call reverse racism crop up very soon with India becoming a heavy weight super power in the next 20 years there will be no place to hide for the ostriches who call themselves superior based on the colour of their skin as India is destined to rise above all other countries and is bound to become the second largest economy in 2050 after china.

An average Joe in UK will be making 50% less money as compared to and average person in India in 30-40 years and I would love to live to see this happen and the funniest part I am really looking forward to is people queuing in front of Indian embassy in London to get a work permit so they can come and work in India the country they ruled for 200 years and they will be coming here to find menial jobs which an India will not be willing to do.

India-Burma army car rally concludes

Tuesday, January 2nd, 2007

The India-Burma army car rally culminates its journey after completing the round from New Delhi to Rangoon and again backs to Indian capital city. Inaugurated on December 5 in New Delhi, the rally crossed through various Indian states including UP, Bihar, West Bengal, Asom, Nagaland,Manipur and Burmese towns like Tamu, Kalewa, Monywa, Mandalay, Taungoo to reach Rangoon and then it returned back in the last week of December.

Meanwhile, the Burmese team had arrived Rangoon from New Delhi on Saturday. The Tatmadaw members of car rally team were ‘welcomed back at the Yangon International Airport by Lt-Gen Myint Swe of Ministry of Defence, Chairman of Yangon Division Peace and Development Council Commander of Yangon Comand Brig-Gen Hla Htay Win, senior military officers and families of Yangon and Mingaladon Stations’, reports ‘The New Light of Myanmar’, the national English daily on December 31, 2006.

Flagged off by Indian Defence Minister A K Antony at India Gate, the joint car rally was primarily organized to honour 20,000 martyr (soldiers) of India and Burma, who sacrificed their lives during the World War II while fighting under the British flag in Burma in 1942. Visiting Burmese Army general Thura Shwe Mann and Indian Army chief Gen JJ Singh with other senior officials were also present at the flag-off ceremony. “The rally is aimed for close cooperation between the two countries in general and the armed forces of India and Myanmar in particular,” said Indian Defence Minister while inaugurating the rally.

Participated by the Indian and Burmese soldiers, the rally included 12 vehicles with 45 members including 12 Burmese Army personnel covered nearly 8000 kilometers from New Delhi to Yangon and back. In Rangoon , the team paid homage to the World War II martyrs, who were laid to rest at Taukkyan War Cemetery, Myanmar and then they started return journey through the same route to enter India through Moreh in Manipur.

The civil society in India viewed the army car rally as a strategic move by New Delhi for enhancing diplomatic and armed relationship with the military rulers of Burma. The largest democracy in the world nurtures various socio-political organizations, which support the cause of Suu Kyi, but the government still pursues partnership with the SPDC. The Indian civil organizations are aware of the fact that SPDC is accused as one of the worst human rights violators in the globe and also directly responsible for keeping the pro-democracy Burmese icon Aung San Suu Kyi under detention for the last three years. Even though much of Indian and international organizations are tirelessly raising voice against the ties with the Burmese junta, New Delhi has been instating on liaison with SPDC because of its own arguments those are prompted by its national interest and obligation as well.

For most of the people living in India , Burma is a land of atrocities, human right violation and of course under notorious press censorship. The media in the country is not allowed to cover the activities of Nobel laureate and National League for Democracy chief Suu Kyi, who is serving house arrest since 2003. The news portal, who are traditionally critical to the military regime are banned in the country. The local media (mostly in Burmese) are tightlipped while reporting the ongoing atrocities and human rights violation by the military on the common people throughout the country. The foreign media correspondents based in Rangoon are kept under strict vigil by the authority and the only English daily of the country, ‘The New Light of Myanmar’ is run by the government, which is used simply as its mouthpiece.

New Delhi, though facing criticism from international communities for maintaining relationship with the present Burmese regime, cannot afford to snap ties primarily for three reasons. First, Burma can play an important role in realizing India’s Look East policy, where New Delhi proposes land connectivity with various South East Asian countries like Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam (through Burma) for trades. Secondly, the government of India is very much concerned with the presence of Northeast based insurgents in northern Burma . It believes that many armed outfits namely NSCN (both K and IM factions), ULFA, PLA, PREPAK, UNLF, KYKL, KCP etc run their training camps inside the jungles of Burma and also use the neighbouring country as their safe hide outs. Thirdly, New Delhi remains equally concerned with more and more Chinese presence in Burma. With an aim to prevent China’s involvement in Burma that leads to geo- strategic implications for India, New Delhi wants to involve the military rulers in greater economic cooperation.
